Fallen Love:

The story of two once close friends who distance themselves due to misunderstandings and the fear of confronting an uncomfortable situation. The word says that “as iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens another friend.” Some of us have scars that haven’t healed. Some of us have fears we haven’t overcome. We all need a little help facing the giants in our souls. And I believe God gave us friends to help us through those. But, sometimes, we choose comfort above growth. And the conflict we avoid can be the silent killer of a friendship. Because when we don’t talk about things, we are left with assumptions. And often, those assumptions are a little off. The song also points out the different perceptions of the same situation we can each have, based on our own upbringings and learned behavioral patterns.

Karen Juli sings Friend 1’s perception and Adryelle sings Friend 2’s perception. We think others should automatically know how we feel or think. And that others should know what appropriate behavior is. But sometimes, appropriate behavior is subjective because - once again - we come from different backgrounds, cultures and even different present circumstances. So, it’s better to just address things. Clear it up. Speak the truth in love. I pray that if you had a fallout with a friend, you can have the courage to meditate on what happened, what you could have done better, and prayerfully consider how to open that conversation again with that friend. Asking God to walk into the room with you, guiding the conversation through that conflict resolution. Many times, we fear that we will not know what to say. Or even that we may make it worse. But it’s okay to even start the conversation stating that and praying together first. We are called to be ministers of reconciliation to God and to each other. It’s scary. But the good news is that we are never alone. God is always ready to help us. Our faith pleases God and unlocks doors.

“Lord, You know my fears. Only You know my traumas. But You also know my heart. I want love to win, Lord. I want You to win. So, I ask You to help me to open this conversation as afraid as I may be. I know that when I follow Your way - even when I don’t receive the reaction I am hoping for - You will work it all out for good. I don’t need to put up walls. I am safe and I am free in Your loving care.”
